Institute of European Studies

The genesis of the JU Institute of European Studies has its roots in the creation of the Inter-faculty department for European Studies in 1993 at the JU. In 1999, the department was restructured into the Centre for European Studies, which became part of the Faculty of Philosophy JU. In 2001, the Centre for European Studies was carved into the structure of the Institute of Regional Studies – a section of the Faculty of International and Political Studies JU. In 2004, the Centre was restructured into the Institute of European Studies and became a part of the Faculty of International and Political Studies JU.

The goals underlying the foundation of the Department for European Studies and, presently, the functioning of the Institute of European Studies, are fuelled by didactic and research-based methods within European studies. Such a goal orientation is telling of the interdisciplinary character of the unit, realised by the approach to the European problematic from the perspective of the disciplines of: anthropology, economy, cultural studies, political sciences, law and sociology.
